Who We Are
Principled Pooch began with one mission: to provide anti-racist, inclusive, judgment-free grooming for all dogs and the people who love them. After years in the nonprofit world, our founder, Mark Conley-Buchsieb, followed his lifelong passion for animals and trained as a Certified Professional Groomer at the Northern California Grooming Academy.
Mark saw that too many pet parents feel dismissed or even shamed by traditional salons. Principled Pooch was created as a different kind of grooming service—where families are welcomed, every dog is respected, and compassion guides every appointment. Today, we proudly serve Vallejo, Benicia, and Fairfield with professional, reliable, and loving care.

Mark Conley-Buchsieb
Owner & Groomer
Mark founded Principled Pooch in 2025 to bring Solano County a more inclusive and compassionate approach to grooming. After completing professional training and certification at the Northern California Grooming Academy, he worked in a busy Vallejo salon where he sharpened his skills and built strong relationships with pets and families.
A lifelong dog lover and maltipoo parent, Mark brings patience, empathy, and a values-driven approach to every appointment. His goal is simple: to keep pets healthy, happy, and cared for in a way that makes every family feel safe and respected.

Do you accept dogs who were turned away by other groomers?
Yes. We believe every family deserves attention. We’ll discuss your dog’s history together and create a safe, realistic plan that works for everyone.
Can you groom aggressive or anxious dogs?
We do our best to work with every pup. Many dogs show fear-based behaviors that improve with patience, consistency, and one-on-one care. If extra time is needed, we’ll discuss that openly before continuing.

What should I do to prepare for my appointment?
To make the process as smooth as possible:
1. Check your dog’s coat and skin: Feel over their body for mats, red patches, or signs of fleas, and let us know at check-in if you notice anything.
2. Secure parking: Ensure there’s a safe, legal parking spot nearby for the grooming van.
3. Potty break: Let your dog out to use the bathroom right before the appointment begins.
